Oven-Baked Izmir Meatballs (İzmir Köfte)
A very satisfying and practical dinner featuring juicy meatballs and potato wedges baked perfectly in a rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients
- 500g ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 onion (grated)
- 1 egg
- 3 medium potatoes
- 2 tomatoes
- 3 green peppers
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- Salt, black pepper, cumin
- Vegetable oil for light frying
Instructions
For the meatballs: In a large bowl, knead together the ground beef, grated onion, egg, breadcrumbs, and spices. Shape them into long, oval meatballs.
Cut the potatoes into thick wedges.
Lightly fry the potatoes in a pan with a little oil, followed by the meatballs. Arrange them alternately in a baking dish.
Place sliced tomatoes and green peppers between the meatballs and potatoes.
For the sauce, dissolve the tomato paste in 1.5 cups of hot water, add a pinch of salt, and pour it evenly over the dish.
Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for 35-40 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
